‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Dominates Christmas Box Office – Ticket Sales Revealed | Box Office, Movies, Mufasa, Mufasa: The Lion King, The Lion King | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Mufasa: The Lion King is on top!

The movie earned $14.7 million at the box office during the holiday, bringing its overall haul to $197.7 million globally, via Variety.

The film is set to bring in more than $50 million across the five-day holiday time period.

Here’s the synopsis: “Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.”

Nosferatu came in second place on its opening day with $11.5 million, and was made on a budget of $50 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 earned $10.3 million on the holiday, bringing its domestic tally to $88 million after previously beating out Mufasa pre-Christmas, while A Complete Unknown opened with $7.2 million, including $1.4 million from Tuesday previews. It is expected to bring in $22 million over its first five days, and reportedly cost between $60 million to $70 million.

Wicked took in $5.4 million on Christmas, having earned $397.9 million domestically thus far since opening just before Thanksgiving.
